Hey everyone! My name's Jose and I recently finished my undergraduate degree in mathematics and engineering physics at Santa Clara University (SCU) and enrolled to start my graduate degree there as well in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Mechatronics. I was born in Manila, Philippines but was raised in the bay area so, like Suzanne, if anybody needs help finding their way around town, I can definitely offer that.
I've spent two years working with SCU's Robotic Systems Laboratory in conjunction with NASA/JPL and AFRL in a couple of satellite projects including ONYX where I was involved with the Anomaly Management Testbed System Payload and have also worked at the Stanford Nanofabrication Facility in superconductor research dealing with dark matter detectors. I've also worked at Cheesecake Factory as a bakery design engineer designing spiral whip cream for the cheesecakes. :)
I LOVE MUSIC! In fact, when school and work give me free time (which is a rarity and i'm sure most of you can relate), I play drums in a rock band trying to live out the rockstar dream, but for now, i'll have to stick with being a NASA intern :) I run a part time recording studio with my friends recording local talent so if any of you guys are feeling artistic and want to lay down some tracks, let me know. I also like to go to the beach to relax and surf, and in general, just like being outdoors to hike, go biking, play sports, etc. I'm excited for this summer to start working and looking forward to meeting everybody.

Hi Jose!
Howdy!
Hey, there!
I'm lovin' the intros, guys... I can't wait to get all of you here in the SSO!
Jose, you might have to give us all some surfing lessons... :-) That's like a California staple, right?
Literally... Rock On, dude!
I was about to say the same about the surfing lessons... I've done it a few times before (being a native Californian, I feel like it's a must), but I'm not very good and could use some help...
Can you surf in the Bay Area? I thought it was confined to SoCal. I've surfed in Hawaii, and really liked it, and would love to go surfing over the summer if possible...
Surfing is definitely a California staple and we'd have to all make a trip some time, although surfing in Capitola or Santa Cruz is pretty intense as a beginner. Seeing as that is, I propose a surfing trip to Hawaii as part of our tenure at NASA. Is that doable? :) To cdwii, the waves of the bay area are surfable but does require a wetsuit, unlike Hawaii and at times SoCal, b/c the waters are way too cold to stay out there for hours at a time. Unless you're robocop, then by all means, feel free to go in your board shorts :)
I've always wanted to be in one of those cute girl surfing movies. I just have to learn to surf. And be cute. ACTING SKILLS ARE SECONDARY.
I remember hearing about a few good spots at Capitola for beginners. I'll have to look into it more if we want to make a trip out there...
Sweet! I'll look into beginning surf spots as well. I know of some, but they're usually crowded. I'll ask around.
And yes, acting skills are usually not mandatory in surf movies for some reason... :)
Sounds like a plan in the works... I could definitely help out as the local resident connection. I'll be living right near downtown Santa Cruz starting in two weeks for those of you want to make a day or weekend out of this.
